Help Us Cover the Cost!

The retreat is over but we're still working to cover all of our costs. We are still taking donations at the church office and there will be an offering taken on Sunday, but if it's more convenient for you to pay by credit card through PayPal we've provided a link for you to do that here.

Park View Mennonite Church Retreat (Aug 28-30, 2015)

Picture
So what’s it about?
As usual, we will practice "slow church" by being together for a couple days without a heavy agenda -- simply spending time together in God's good creation, conversing, relaxing, playing games, sharing food, singing, laughing, and more. Expect some fun and optional afternoon workshops and playshops, and the usual great food to share, and zany entertainment from/for all ages.

The children and youth will have some planned activities (and supervision) just for them, as well as plenty of intergenerational time for all ages.

About Our Speakers
Building on last year's "Slow Church" gardening theme of "cultivating community in the patient way of Jesus," we now ask ourselves what forms of life does God desire us to grow into? What does fruitfulness look like for the community of disciples at Park View? What other gifts might God be asking us to humbly offer the world around us, as we slowly develop into the kind of life-giving tree God intends us to be?

Saturday’s speaker, Jake Lee, one of the pastors of Harrisonburg Mennonite Church, will be speaking to us in our main Saturday morning worship session, and in an optional afternoon workshop. He will focus especially on the kingdom parables from Luke 13. His titles for Saturday are “Jesus, Manure, and the Patience of God” and “Kudzu and Crows: What Fruitfulness Might Look Like at Park View Mennonite”.

Sunday’s speaker is Michael King, dean of Eastern Mennonite Seminary, where he has been focusing on themes such as, ‘treasures of not being sure,’ ‘transforming the shadows,’ and ‘using power for the less powerful.’ He will bring our Sunday morning sermon, focusing on the second parable in Luke 13, that of the mustard seed.

Cost
Retreat costs are covered entirely by your donations. We want this event to be for everyone regardless of ability to pay. We will provide you an estimated cost for your registration, based on your lodging choices and number of meals. Day use only also has a modest cost. Give what you are able.
