Obituary

Elsie Mae Harner Brunk, 85, a resident of Rockingham, Virginia went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, April 25, 2024. She passed on peacefully at her home.

Elsie was born on December 19, 1938 in Waynesboro, Virginia and was a daughter of the late Roy H. and Margaret Weaver Harner. On October 11, 1958 she married Harry A. Brunk, Jr., with whom she shared the rest of her life, 65 years.

Elsie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a homemaker and spent many hours gardening, canning, and freezing fruits and vegetables. Additionally she enjoyed writing and wrote numerous articles for Christian publications, and authored 2 devotional books. Elsie was a member of Park View Mennonite Church and faithfully served as chair of the hospitality committee for many years, overseeing the fellowship and funeral meals. She and her husband, Harry, also worked together in serving banquet meals at Eastern Mennonite School dining hall. Known for her compassion, Elsie dedicated time to visiting those unable to leave their homes, sharing stories and assembling puzzles with them. She was gifted in listening to people’s needs, supporting them in prayer, and doing what she could to make things better.

Elsie’s husband Harry survives, as well as her children, Brian P. Brunk and wife Susan, Marcia B. Lexa and husband Jonathan, Harry A. Brunk III and wife Crystal, Pamela B. Fahndrich and husband Timothy; sisters, Louise Swartz and Gloria A. Beavers; brothers, Arden R. Harner, David A. Harner, Michael R. Harner, 12 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.

In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by a sister, Joann Harner Godshall and brothers-in-law, Abram Godshall and Dennis Swartz.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made payable to Elsie H. Brunk Memorial Fund and mailed to Park View Federal Credit Union, 1675 Virginia Ave,
