Obituary

Bob was born in Plymouth, Michigan on October 30, 1935. He was raised
in the small neighboring community of Northville.

After high school Bob attended Michigan State University in East Lansing,
Michigan. To fund his education, he worked every summer as a deck hand
on cargo ships traversing the Great Lakes. He graduated in 1958 with a
Bachelor of Science degree. He earned a Master’s Degree from Michigan
State University some years later.

Bob worked as a math, physical sciences, and biology teacher in three
suburban school districts north of Detroit. When he retired in 1992 after
thirty-four years of teaching, he and his wife, Janet, built a retirement home
in Bedford, Virginia. They lived there for fourteen years. During that time
they traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They
also took several trips to Europe, five of which were to Italy.

In 2010 they relocated to Harrisonburg. They studied the Mennonite
history with Harvey Yoder and John Sharpe before joining the Mennonite
Church.

Bob’s hobby was ham radio. He got his ham license in 1951 and hammed
until 2022. He contacted over 250 entities and earned many certificates
and awards.

Bob loved living at VMRC and treasured the kindness of all the friends he
met there.

Bob is survived by his wife Janet, a sister in Stevensville, Michigan, a son in
Winchester, Kentucky, and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
