At PVMC, we believe that our spiritual lives are nurtured through both congregational worship and fellowship in small groups. For the total congregation, services of worship provide opportunities for praise, inspiration, instruction and prayer. Small groups provide opportunities for informal fellowship, study, prayer and bearing one another's burdens.
Presently there are about 18 small groups in the congregation. Some have been meeting for a number of years with little change in membership. Some have frequent changes in membership or divide when they reach a certain size. Some are relatively new, having started quite recently.
Each group decides its own focus or character. Some are primarily support groups where members share their needs, challenges or pressing decisions. Others are family-oriented and include children and adults. Still others study or discuss issues of mutual concern. Some are inter-generational, while others are persons of similar age. Some are open to adding new members, while others are not. The frequency of meeting is decided by each group.
Small groups that are most successful include activities such as study, sharing, and prayer. They stress the importance of group commitment and confidentiality.
Persons new to the congregation are encouraged to consider joining a small group. Those interested should contact associate paster Barbara Moyer Lehman.
