The duo of Ed Gant, cello, and Virginia Bethune, harp, who are playing before (beginning at 9:10) and during worship today, have a new CD, Healing Harp Melodies: Classical Tunes and Loveabyes, with harp, flute, and cello, to be released this fall. “I have returned from a wonderful year in Seattle. It was a year filled with life changing experiences. Through your support and your prayers, I have felt a connection with Park View throughout the year. I am now entering a second year of voluntary service through MVS in Washington DC. I will volunteer at Joseph’s House working with homeless men and women with terminal illness. I anticipate some difficult situations and would be grateful for your prayers in the coming year. Being away from home made me realize how much I appreciate this congregation. It will be nice to be on the east coast so I can visit more often. Thanks, and God bless!” – Courtney Miller

A Sunday School class for College-age young adults is beginning in Room 19 this Sunday. Come and join in fellowship, discussion, and growth.

Live Video Feed to VMRC has begun, airing the Sunday morning service live to VMRC and re-broadcasting again at 1:30 p.m. We do still need $2,000 to cover costs of this project. Any size gift welcome. Please make your check payable to PVMC with “VMRC video connection” in the memo line. Thank you.                                                                   -- The Finance Committee

Volunteers are needed to perform a “replay” of the worship service to VMRC each Sunday afternoon at 1:30. You will be put on a rotating schedule. Persons living near the church would be ideal, who could come back to the church after lunch, and “push a few buttons.” It is not highly technical. Anyone can be trained. If available, contact Phil Kniss or Nathan May.

Service Opportunities: A caregiver is needed to help with child care during women’s Bible study, mid-September -- mid-November from 8:30 - 9:45 a.m. Wednesday mornings. A small stipend is available. All ages welcome. Also needed is someone to help with food preparation and serving (no stipend). If willing, contact Linda Matheny: lmatheny@comcast.net or 828-6809.

4th Annual Harrisonburg CROP Walk will take place on Sunday, Sept. 19th at 4pm. This 3-mile walk to raise funds for Church World Service will begin and end at the Farmer’s Market parking lot. Last year our church had 46 walkers and raised over $4,000. The 2009 Walk brought in $10,579. Of that amount, 25% remains in the community for hunger needs. Be a walker or sponsor a walker! If interested, see Sherwyn Smeltzer for sponsor sheet.

Back-to-School book display is on the front of the A-frame in the library. New books are on the back side.

Flyers for two upcoming women’s retreats were in your mailboxes, both for the same weekend, October 29-31:

Park View’s “Fall Weekend Away” provides an unstructured time to relax among friends at Highland Retreat (ivory flyer).

Mennonite Women of Virginia’s “Encountering God in the Ordinary” is at Best Western in Waynesboro (yellow flyer); register by October 12.
